MAURY MC2 Barrels Used On Château La Loubière Sauvignon Blanc

Tonnellerie MAURY:

MAURY & FILS represents a fourth-generation left bank Bordeaux cooperage that originated along the "quai des chartrons" quartier of Bordeaux in 1893. Today, the cooperage is managed by Mathieu Maury who oversees the production of 4,000 French oak barrels a year.

Château la Loubière:

The estate is located several kilometers from Bordeaux in the Entre-Deux-Mers region and the wine is made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, and Muscadet. The 2020 vintage received the Silver medal in the 2021 "Concours Mondial du Sauvignon" out of 1,200 wines tasted. The wine was whole bunched pressed, fermented in stainless steel, and then aged 55% in sandstone jars and 45% in new 225L MAURY Center of France Tight Grain MC2 Toast barrels for two years.

Using new oak in Sauvignon Blanc:

In Bordeaux but also the Napa Valley, Sauvignon Blanc is making a comeback as consumers desire white wines that are less caloric and alcoholic than their red Bordeaux counterparts. Like Chardonnay in Burgundy, a rich history exists between the use of oak and Sauvignon Blanc.

The MAURY "MC2" double Light Long Toast:

MAURY's MC2 toast stands for "Maury chauffe deux fois" which can be translated to a double Light Long Toast. The barrel is very lightly toasted in the morning just for bending the staves, left to rest over lunch, and then toasted very lightly again in the afternoon. The MC2 toast represents MAURY's lightest toast and texturally impacts the wine by bringing tension and linearity. From an aromatic point of view, the profile is slightly savory while respecting the fruit and varietal characteristics.
