Produced by Bordeaux's Paetzold family are borosilicate glass globes available in 25L - 220L and the new 400L! They allow for the purest expression of the grape and terroir due to the neutrality of the material: borosilicate glass; which is easy to clean and equipped with winemaker friendly accessories. Château Olivier - Graves - Pessac Léognon

Château Olivier dates back to the 11th Century of the Middle Ages and is one of Bordeaux's oldest Château estates. During the Middle Ages it was known as the fiefdom "Olivey" and used as a Fortified Keep during the Hundreds Years war with England. The estate still has a moat and drawbridge and is considered Grand Cru Classé for both it's reds and whites. Thanks to the area's gravely soils which is translated in the regions name: "Graves", the site provides well drained soils that favor both reds and whites, making the region unique in comparison to the rest of Bordeaux's regions that favor reds.

2015 - First partner for trials on whites

The original 220L Wineglobe was not commercially available until 2020, but Château Olivier represents one of Wineglobes earliest partner for trials. Their Globes were initially tested on the winery's white wines which are made from 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon. 33% of berries are left on skins for a couple days before pressing. The wines are then fermented in a mix of 20% Wineglobes, 20% new 225L barrels and 60% neutral barrels with no stirring and left for 9 months on lees. Their twelve Globes contribute tension and energy on the palate and aromatic varietal purity and mesh perfectly with oak to build complexity and promote freshness.

Adoption into reds and 400L Globes!

Following convincing results on whites, Château Olivier decided to use some of their 220L destined Wineglobes on their reds: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet France and Petit Verdot. The results allowed for polished tannins, verticality on the palate, aromatic varietal fruit explosiveness and a perfect blending tool with their new and neutral oak barrels. Already convinced of the results on their whites and reds in the 220L format, the release of the 400L Wineglobe and a reduction in price of -34% / L in comparison to the 220L was a no brainer for Château Olivier to go bigger.
